Celebrate Yourself, Celebrate Womanhood!

March 6, 2019

How do we celebrate Woman’s Day? How do we as women celebrate each other? I feel you should first celebrate your own self. Embrace your own identity, your own individuality. Appreciate who you are with all your flaws and shortcomings. Only when we celebrate ourselves can we truly celebrate womanhood as a whole.

Loving your own self is quite under rated. When we don’t fully love and appreciate ourselves, we look up to others for praise or criticism. I don’t mean to love yourself to the point of narcissism but to the point of self-confidence, so that your happiness is not dependent on anyone else’s approval.

I am reminded of Lady Gaga’s famous song ‘Born This Way’ which goes something like this –

I'm beautiful in my way
'Cause God makes no mistakes
I'm on the right track, baby I was born this way

How can we celebrate ourselves? Simple, just by being ourselves! I have completely accepted contradictions that are a part of me. I can be totally outgoing one day, make some new friends and catch up with old ones. I can also sit alone at Starbucks, read my book and not bother about even saying hello to anyone passing by. I can be posting Instagram stories about everything I did in a day and go completely off the grid on social media for another week. I can be this super mom who plans like 10 activities for my toddler in a day and I can also be this want my personal space mom who will leave her toddler for a mini vacation. I celebrate myself by just being who I am and accepting my own imperfections.

So this woman’s day let's celebrate ourselves first and be unapologetic about who we are. Happy Woman’s Day!
